Young Life Cape Fear is seeking support for its Student Staff Training program—an intensive summer professional development experience for local college students. This project will equip emerging leaders with the practical skills, hands-on experience, and mentorship needed to grow as positive, capable role models in their schools and communities. Designed as a comprehensive leadership pipeline, the training prepares students for real-world challenges through guided learning in communication, organizational management, fundraising, mentorship, and community engagement.
The program runs during the summer months, combining in-field experience with structured mentorship and individualized coaching under the supervision of seasoned staff. Participants gain exposure to essential leadership competencies, such as team-building, volunteer recruitment and training, interpersonal communication, and event coordination. They are also taught administrative and operational fundamentals including time management, data tracking, public relations, and budget accountability. In addition, students receive training in donor stewardship and resource development, building the capacity to support future nonprofit work or community initiatives. These experiences are offered through a blend of workshops, direct program support, and reflective personal development planning.
Through this project, Young Life Cape Fear aims to cultivate a generation of leaders who are not only community-minded but also professionally equipped. Participants will leave the program with stronger problem-solving skills, a deeper sense of responsibility, and first-hand experience in engaging youth and peers in meaningful ways. By investing in their development now, we foster long-term community resilience and leadership from within.
