The Salvation Army of Cape Fear proudly celebrated the dedication of its new Center for Hope, marking a significant milestone in its 137-year legacy of serving the community, made even more meaningful by the outpouring of support from local leaders, partners, and residents who joined in the celebration.
The Center for Hope stands as a testament to what can be achieved when a community comes together. This project was made possible through the collective support of many generous donors, along with partnerships between the City of Wilmington, New Hanover County, and local organizations.
The Endowment was proud to support this project through a $1,000,000 grant in the fall of 2024 to help fund construction. Thanks to this united effort, the Center was built to provide a safe, supportive environment for individuals and families transitioning to permanent housing. The facility features family units, as well as separate men’s and women’s wings, all designed to offer comfort, dignity, and hope to those in need.
The Center can accommodate 75 residents and includes seven private family living spaces, allowing families to remain together during challenging times. Additionally, the facility is equipped to expand and shelter up to 100 additional individuals during hurricanes and other emergency situations, serving as a crucial emergency disaster shelter for the at-risk community.
More than a shelter, the Center for Hope is a transitional program, a place where individuals can learn, grow, and support one another. With expanded life skills training, a social services center offering access to a food pantry, rent and utility assistance, and nightly community meals, the Center is designed to help residents rebuild their lives with stability and hope.
This dedication marks a powerful milestone in The Salvation Army’s enduring commitment to serve and uplift the Cape Fear region.
