Tyler Newman is a strategic policy advocate and business leader with over two decades of experience in legislative affairs, economic development, and regulatory policy. Most recently, he served as President & CEO of BASE, a nonprofit advocacy organization, where he led efforts to drive pro-investment policies that supported business growth in Southeastern North Carolina. His leadership influenced key infrastructure projects, regulatory reforms, and economic initiatives across New Hanover, Brunswick, Pender, and Onslow counties.
With a deep background in government relations, Tyler successfully lobbied for critical funding and policy advancements, including securing millions for infrastructure projects such as the Cape Fear Memorial Bridge replacement and leading efforts to reinstate Brunswick County in the Wilmington MSA. His expertise in coalition building strengthened BASE’s partnerships with Chambers of Commerce, Home Builders, and REALTORS® Associations, ensuring a comprehensive approach to advocacy at local, state, and federal levels.
Before BASE, Tyler served as Special Assistant to the City Manager for Legislative Affairs in Wilmington, where he developed and executed the city’s legislative agenda. He also held leadership roles at the Home Builders Association of Georgia, advocating for industry regulations and licensing programs.
A graduate of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill with a degree in Political Science, Tyler is a Duke North Carolina Leadership Forum Fellow and a recognized influencer in regional economic policy. His strategic insight and commitment to business-friendly policies continue to shape the economic landscape of Southeastern North Carolina.
