Roberto Ramirez, a Wilmington resident and registered nurse, is driven by a belief that everyone deserves access to the care and resources they need to thrive. As an emergency department nurse at Novant Health New Hanover Regional Medical Center, he witnesses daily how housing instability, mental health challenges, language barriers, and limited access to preventive care affect individuals and families across New Hanover County.
Beyond his clinical work, Roberto is committed to addressing the broader factors that shape community well-being. He currently serves on the New Hanover County Health and Human Services Board, helping guide public health and social service initiatives throughout the county. Through the Coastal Community Healthcare Fellowship at UNCW and his previous service as Vice Chair of Cape Fear Latinos, he has worked to strengthen community partnerships, advance health equity, and expand access to critical resources.
As a bilingual English and Spanish speaker, Roberto has helped bridge communication gaps by serving as a Spanish interpreter during healthcare outreach efforts and supporting initiatives to improve access to mental health services. His first-generation background and frontline experience continue to shape his commitment to elevating community voices and bring valuable perspective to the Community Advisory Council.
