Spence Broadhurst is the President of the Eastern North Carolina Region for First National Bank. In this role, he oversees corporate and business banking strategies, integrating key services such as asset-based lending, insurance, private banking, retail banking, wealth management, and more across the region’s 20+ offices.
Prior to joining First National Bank in 2017, Spence held executive roles including Chief Banking Officer at NewBridge Bank and Regional President at SunTrust Bank, where he managed multi-billion-dollar portfolios and led diverse banking teams. His career spans over three decades, beginning at Central Carolina Bank, and showcases his expertise in commercial and real estate banking.
A graduate of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, Spence earned dual degrees in Economics and Industrial Relations. He is deeply committed to economic development and community service, serving as chair of North Carolina Southeast Economic Development and on the board of the Economic Development Partnership of North Carolina. Notably, he is the immediate past chairman of the New Hanover Community Endowment, where he helped establish governance for a $1.3 billion fund.
Spence is a former trustee of North Carolina A&T State University and has served as mayor of Wilmington, NC, where his strategic initiatives spurred economic growth and infrastructure development. His leadership continues to drive progress in both the financial and public sectors.
