Working Films

Working Films leverages the power of documentary films to advance social justice and environmental protection. Recognizing the power of film to inform and inspire, Working Films positions documentaries to increase civic engagement and shift culture at the local, state, and national level. We offer funding and in-kind support to underrepresented filmmakers. We lead conversations and trainings for grassroots groups and nonprofits to ensure that nonfiction media is increasingly embraced as a critical resource in their strategies for social change.

2025 Community Grant Recipient ($5,000): To support Story Leads NHC, a series of film screenings and workshops for middle and high school students in New Hanover County

2025 Capacity Grant Recipient ($4,528): To help fund a consultant to design and facilitate a strategic planning process.

2026 Community Grant Recipient ($15,000): To present the Story Leads half-day conference in Wilmington in early Fall 2026, bringing together current and emerging nonprofit, public service, media professionals, and college/university students pursuing careers to support organizations using film and storytelling to communicate impact.
