Terri Burhans is a seasoned non-profit leader and community development professional with over 15 years of experience in fundraising, project management, and strategic planning. Currently serving as a Network Officer for the New Hanover Community Endowment in Wilmington, NC, Terri leads impactful grantmaking strategies, including a $19.6 million investment in affordable housing, strengthening collaboration across stakeholder groups and designing metrics to evaluate outcomes.
Previously, as Housing Director for Cape Fear Collective, Terri spearheaded initiatives that raised $2 million in funding and managed $18 million in housing investments. Her expertise extends to federal funding compliance, asset management, and developing affordable housing policies.
Terri’s career highlights also include roles with the City of Wilmington and City of Ranson, where she aligned recreation and community development programs with local priorities, secured substantial funding, and delivered community-focused programs. As a former Parks and Recreation Director, she successfully secured $1.6 million in annual fundraising, developed unique events, and built strong public-private partnerships.
A graduate of Shepherd University with a Bachelor of Science in Parks and Recreation (Therapeutic Recreation), Terri combines her academic foundation with hands-on leadership to drive equitable access to resources and build resilient communities. Her dedication to placemaking, environmental stewardship, and economic mobility is evident in her diverse portfolio of accomplishments, from overseeing amphitheater construction to managing multi-million-dollar investments.
