Haywood E. (Woody) White III is a distinguished attorney and public servant with a career spanning over three decades. A graduate of Southern College in Tennessee and the University of Nebraska College of Law, Woody was admitted to the North Carolina Bar in 1994. His legal expertise is underscored by his Board Certification in State and Federal Criminal Law, an honor earned by a select few attorneys statewide. He has also been recognized as a Thomson Reuters “Super Lawyer” (2012, 2017–2024) and a Business North Carolina Legal Elite recipient (2007, 2010, 2021).

Woody’s public service is equally noteworthy. He served as a North Carolina State Senator for the 9th District, New Hanover County Commissioner (2012–2020), and Chair of the Board of Commissioners. His leadership extended to appointments on influential boards, including the University of North Carolina Wilmington Board of Trustees (2018) and the UNC System Board of Governors (2023).

A dedicated community leader, Woody has contributed to organizations such as Habitat for Humanity, Coastal Horizons Treatment Center, and New Hanover Regional Medical Center. Known for his calm demeanor and principled approach, Woody consistently fosters collaboration to address challenges in southeastern North Carolina.
