Dr. Edelmira Segovia brings a wealth of experience and dedication to her role as Director of Precollege Programs and College Access at UNC Wilmington, where she focuses on fostering college readiness and empowering students and families across North Carolina to achieve their academic potential. With a strong background in public education and a commitment to diversity and inclusion, Dr. Segovia has held pivotal leadership positions, including Director of Centro Hispano at UNC Wilmington and Co-chair of the Latino Alliance of Southeastern North Carolina.

Throughout her career, Dr. Segovia has championed underrepresented populations in higher education, teaching world languages, coordinating migrant education programs, and serving as a diversity and inclusion administrator. She has been actively involved in various community organizations, including the New Hanover County Hispanic-Latino Commission and the Latin American Business Council of the Wilmington Chamber of Commerce. Her contributions extend to statewide initiatives such as the Educational Subcommittee of the Governor’s Advisory Council on Hispanic/Latino Affairs and the Cape Fear Community College Interpreter Program Board of Advisors.

In addition to her professional achievements, Dr. Segovia served as vice chair of The Endowment in 2023 and, in 2024, took on the role of secretary, continuing to contribute to its mission. She holds degrees from UNC Wilmington and Appalachian State University. Outside of work, Dr. Segovia enjoys promoting wellness, exploring culinary delights, and traveling with her husband and two adult children, reflecting her passion for family and cultural enrichment.
