Jane Morrow serves as the Executive Director of Smart Start of New Hanover County, a nonprofit dedicated to meeting the needs of children during their critical first 2,000 days. With over 30 years of experience in the nonprofit and early childhood sectors, Jane is deeply passionate about building communities where children and families can thrive.

Grounded in the latest brain science, Jane believes we have both the opportunity and responsibility to support children’s development through responsive, nurturing relationships, the cultivation of core life skills such as focus, self-regulation, and adaptability, and by reducing sources of stress in their lives. Her work focuses on creating systems and strategies that surround children and families with the connections, resources, and support they need to flourish.

Jane’s extensive career has honed her expertise in strategic and systems thinking, enabling her to develop and implement programs that make meaningful, long-lasting impacts. She is committed to building a community where every child has the opportunity to reach their full potential.

Having grown up overseas and in the suburbs of Washington, D.C., Jane brings a unique perspective to her work. She earned her undergraduate degree from William & Mary and her Master’s and Ph.D. from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.

Jane’s leadership at Smart Start reflects her lifelong dedication to creating equitable opportunities for children and families, ensuring their success now and into the future.
