Jack Barto, MHA, FACHE, is a seasoned healthcare executive with over four decades of experience leading healthcare systems and creating cultures of excellence. As the President and CEO of New Hanover Regional Medical Center (NHRMC) from 2004 to 2017, Jack guided southeastern North Carolina’s largest health system through a period of significant growth, financial stability, and workforce development. Under his leadership, NHRMC became a national leader in quality and patient experience, recognized for its collaborative culture involving staff, physicians, and board members.
Jack’s approach emphasized leadership development and mission-driven work, encouraging staff to take ownership of organizational goals. His commitment to high standards earned him induction into the Studer Firestarter Hall of Fame in 2013.
Before NHRMC, Jack served as CEO at Provena Mercy Center in Illinois and held executive leadership roles in major healthcare systems, including Memorial Sisters of Charity Health Network and Sisters of Charity Health Systems in Houston, Texas.
An active community leader, Jack has supported numerous organizations, including the Wilmington Chamber of Commerce, Cape Fear Habitat for Humanity, and the Cameron School of Business Advisory Board. He has also shared his expertise through speaking engagements and educational programs at institutions such as UNC-Wilmington.
Jack holds a master’s degree in health administration from George Washington University and a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Notre Dame. With a deep understanding of the Wilmington community, Jack continues to contribute to healthcare and community well-being.
