Bethany L. Hengsbach, Acting Director of Accountability, is an external consultant contracted with The Endowment to assess the organization’s existing compliance infrastructure and to build a robust Accountability and Ethics program for the endowment. As part of her responsibilities, she will develop and assist in filling the role of Director of Accountability as a position on The Endowment staff. She has over two decades of experience in corporate governance, white-collar criminal law, and ethics and compliance program implementation. Currently, she serves as Managing Director of Global Corporate Compliance at Affiliated Monitors, Inc., where she leads independent compliance monitoring engagements for government agencies and state and federal courts. Her role includes overseeing compliance assessments across industries such as healthcare, technology, and finance, and designing robust compliance programs tailored to organizational needs.
Bethany’s career highlights include serving as Lead Monitor in high-profile cases such as State of California v. Providence Group, Inc. and State of California v. Sameday Health. She has also served as a monitor of mergers in the anti-trust space and in consumer protection matters, showcasing her ability to navigate complex regulatory landscapes with precision.
Previously, Bethany was a Partner at AmLaw 100 firm Sheppard, Mullin, Richter & Hampton LLP, where she defended clients in white-collar enforcement actions and led internal investigations involving anti-corruption, healthcare fraud, and financial crimes. She has also successfully litigated commercial disputes during her tenure at other prestigious national law firms.
Bethany’s thought leadership is well recognized; she has authored a book on Foreign Corrupt Practices Act compliance and published extensively in respected legal and financial publications. A sought-after speaker, she has participated in global compliance conferences as both a panelist and moderator.
Bethany earned her Juris Doctor from DePaul University College of Law and a Bachelor of Arts with distinction from the University of Illinois. She is licensed to practice law in California and Illinois.
